Namecheap New Control Panel How to Add A Record and CNAME DNS Entries for Shopify 2015

In this video I’m going to show you how to
update your DNS entries in the Namecheap control panel I’m going to show you how to add an A Record and how to add a CNAME Namecheap has recently updated their control panel so it now looks little bit different so I decided to do some updated videos to guide you through this process so I’ve already logged into my Namecheap account as you can see here and I have my domain name that I registered in a prior video “sfdresscode.com” so in order to update the DNS entries in the control
panel I just need to select “Manage” next to the domain I wish to update. So I’m going to click “Manage” and now it brings us to this screen details about the domain I want to select “Advanced DNS” right here on this tab and this would bring me to the
DNS screen of the control panel for this domain so right now I just have this domain parked these are the entries that namecheap puts in when the domain is purchased and I want to update those using the Shopify information in the Shopify video that I recorded earlier So what I’m going to do is I’m going to actually delete these two records I’m just going to click the trash can here and now I’m going to add a new record by clicking on this “Add Record” link here now a section pops up for me to put in some information the type that we’re going to enter is going to be an A Record so we need a Host and a Value so the Host is going to be “@” that means without a “www” that means without… means just the domain name itself and now we’re going have to enter Value
which is going to be the IP address that in this example, that Shopify gave us, so
I’m going to go ahead and copy that IP address and I’m going to paste it here and here we have a TTL which means the
“time to live” basically that means how long is this entry good for before all the nameservers know to go and check and see if there’s a new updated entry I’m just going to set this one to five
minutes that’s a good amount of time Now I also want to add a CNAME so I’m going to click “Add New Record” and I’m going to change this “A Record” section to “CNAME” this is going to now be “www” so www.sfdrescode.com this is where this is going to point to and this is just how Shopify likes things setup and I’m just copying this exactly from the Shopify control panel and if you want to know how to do that you can look at the Shopify domain name video that I put together so I’m copying the domain that they want the CNAME pointed to and this target section, I’m just going to paste
it. And again, I’m going to change the TTL to 5 minutes and I’m going to click Save Changes Just check this little, click this little check mark next to each entry now the last entry that I just deleted earlier had a TTL of 30 minutes which means this will take about 30 minutes to be updated again since all the name servers on the Internet aren’t going to check for a new entry until 30 minutes so in about 30 minutes these entries should have gone through and you can check from the control panel of Shopify if you’re using Shopify it should let you know that everything is working properly but that’s basically it. That’s how you add an
A Record and how you add a CNAME using the Namecheap control panel Be sure to check out some of my other
guided videos as well
